Why not women be allowed upto srikovil?

Women are traditionally not allowed in GSB temples inside the inner temple. They are restricted to outside and not allowed to go near the srikovil. While other communities have lifted this ban, we still continue it. There is no ban in Tirupati temple. Women are allowed in some GSB temples like Manjeswar, Venkatramana temple Udupi. Then why not in all?

Women were not allowd earlier in tune with the social system prevailing at that time and the prevalent male domination. Another reason is that in earlier days our women used to take head bath only on Tuesdays and Fridays. But social systems have changed, women are literate and more enpowered.

What women feel about it?

Interview with an old lady (aged 85) from Thuravoor:

My only wish is to see the Lord near. At times I feel very bad that I go to Vadakkanappan temple and pray where I can see the Lord near and feel at his feet.

Interview with a young girl (aged 15) from Trivandrum:

I went to Kayamkulam Vittala temple many times but could not see the idol inside. Since I have no idea about the appearance of Vittala Vigraha I now do not have any wish to go there again.

This also can be one of the reasons why many GSBs do not go to our temples but to others. The elder members have to review the policy and consider the request favourably.
